What plumbers usually pay for SEO

Plumbing SEO quotes fall into five tiers. The ranges below are typical US monthly prices from agencies and consultants, not quotes from any one company, and they assume the website already exists.

TierTypical monthly priceWho it fitsWhat it usually includes
Profile management only200 to 600 USDA shop that wants the map listing kept currentGoogle Business Profile posts, photos, review replies, basic citation upkeep
Local starter750 to 1 500 USDOne truck to a few, one small town or suburbProfile work, a few service pages, citations, light on-page fixes
Full local SEO, one location1 500 to 3 000 USDAn established shop in a mid-sized marketProfile, new service and city pages every month, reviews, local links, technical fixes, call reporting
Competitive metro or several locations3 000 to 6 000 USDSeveral trucks in a large metro, or two to five locationsEverything above at higher volume, more links, a profile and pages per location
Franchise or regional group6 000 USD and upMany locations under one brandLocation page systems, profiles at scale, reporting per branch

A quote below 500 USD for "full SEO" usually means directory submissions and a monthly ranking screenshot. A quote above 6 000 USD for a single location should come with a clear reason, such as a very large metro or a site that needs rebuilding.

What drives the price of plumbing SEO

Two plumbers can get quotes 3 000 USD apart for what sounds like the same work. These are the reasons, roughly in order of weight.

  • Metro competition. Ranking a plumber in Houston, Phoenix or Los Angeles takes more pages, links and reviews than ranking one in a town of 60 000 people, because the competitors there have been at it for years.
  • Number of service areas and locations. Each town you want calls from needs its own page, and each physical location needs its own profile and its own reviews.
  • How many services you sell. A shop that does only drains needs a handful of pages. A full-service company with water heaters, sewer, gas lines, repiping and commercial work needs dozens.
  • The state of the website. A slow site on an old template, or one with no way to add pages, costs time before any new work starts.
  • Your review count against the leaders. If the top three in the map pack have 400 reviews and you have 30, review work becomes a large part of the plan.
  • Links needed. Local links from suppliers, sponsorships and local news take real outreach, and that labor is where much of the price goes.

Plumber SEO cost versus paid leads and Local Services Ads

The fair comparison is not SEO against nothing. It is SEO against what you already pay to make the phone ring.

ChannelHow you payStrong pointWeak point
Monthly SEO retainerFixed monthly feeCalls keep coming after the work is done, cost per call falls over timeTakes months to start, needs a few months of patience
Pay per lead servicesA fee per lead, varies by job type and marketImmediate volumeLeads are often shared with other plumbers and stop when you stop paying
Google Local Services AdsA fee per lead, with the Google Guaranteed badgeSits above the map pack, you pay for contacts, not clicksCost per lead rises with competition, and you rent the position
Google Ads searchA fee per clickFull control over jobs and areasEmergency plumbing clicks are expensive in most metros, and not every click calls

A worked example with hypothetical numbers shows the logic. Say your average ticket is 450 USD and a booked job leaves you 40 percent gross margin, about 180 USD. A 1 500 USD monthly plan pays for itself at roughly nine extra booked jobs a month, or fewer once a single water heater or sewer job is in the mix. Put your own ticket and margin into the same sum before you sign anything.

Calls that come in after hours are part of the same sum. A homeowner with a burst pipe at 10 p.m. who lands on your site and finds no way to reach anyone simply calls the next result. An answering service, or a chatbot on your website that takes the details and books the visit, keeps more of the traffic you paid to earn.

Red flags in a plumbing SEO quote

  • A 6 or 12 month contract with no exit. An agency confident in its work can keep you month to month.
  • No list of monthly deliverables. You cannot compare two quotes without knowing how many pages, links and fixes each one buys.
  • The agency owns your profile or website. Your Google Business Profile, domain, Search Console and website should be in your name from the first day.
  • Guaranteed number one rankings. Nobody controls Google. A guarantee usually means an obscure search no customer types.
  • Cheap link packages. Hundreds of links for a few hundred dollars come from networks Google ignores or penalizes.
  • Reports without calls. Rankings and traffic are not the goal. A good report shows calls and form leads from search, month by month.

What a fair plumber SEO package includes each month

Whatever the price, a plumber SEO package that earns its fee ships visible work every month. Ask for these items by name.

  • Google Business Profile work. Posts, photos from real jobs, services and service area kept current, questions answered.
  • New pages. Service pages for the jobs you want more of and city pages for the towns you serve, written with local detail.
  • Review requests and replies. A routine your techs use after each job and a reply to every review, good or bad.
  • Citations. Consistent business details across the main home services directories.
  • Local links. Supplier and dealer pages, sponsorships, associations and local press.
  • Technical fixes. Speed, mobile layout, tap to call, broken pages, all implemented and not just listed.
  • A report with calls. Calls and forms from search next to the work done that month.
